Today is a particularly special day for us here at Bluebird. It is a day that we are reminded of who we are, what we have learnt, what we have achieved, and that both individually and together, we have a limitless opportunity to make what we want from the world.
We started Bluebird only 18 months ago, and we haven’t looked back since. It has been an absolute cliché of a rollercoaster, with the many ups and downs, and countless unpredictable twists and changes in direction. But the one thing we know for sure is that it is always the first step that is the hardest. For us, it was taking the leap-of-faith and to back ourselves in carving out a piece of this world to truly call our own.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EachforEqual. That individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions, AND collectively, each one of us can help to create an equal world. Being an ‘all-female’ privately owned and operated company, we often joke that we have zero gender diversity in our business. But in all seriousness, we are also very conscious of this.
The industry in which we work (property) is still heavily skewed to men, and the ‘boys club’ is still very much apparent in our every day. There is a great change taking place, but for now and for us, this is still a daily challenge that we face.
Running a company is hard enough without having to fight bias, challenge stereotypes, or constantly work to broaden perceptions. But we will continue to do this, and we will not let it stand in our way.
We started Bluebird from the mutual love of property and our drive to create beautiful places and thriving communities. We believe everyone, regardless of gender, age, race or wealth, has the ability and right to live a beautiful life – a life that is full of joy, connection, gratitude and possibility. Our surrounding environment is central to this, and we at Bluebird have taken it on as our responsibility to shape it in the best way we can.
Bluebird is a company, but we are also individuals. We are workers, parents, partners, friends, children and a part of communities. And we inherently understand that we are all parts of a whole. Our individual actions, conversations, behaviours and mindsets can have an incredible impact on our larger society.
Since we took that leap of faith, we have learnt through inner belief, openness, commitment and resilience, we can collectively achieve anything. And we hope to inspire others to live this way too. We all have the opportunity to live a beautiful life – and we believe together, we all have the ability and responsibility to be better, do better, and to help create an equal world.
